Roman Catholic Church
There is a Roman Catholic Church located in Krishnanagar which is very popular for its grand architecture. The church has the display of scenes of Jesus Christ's life that are painted in canvas as well as many other wooden frescos made by Italian artists. There is also a Protestant Church, College Bhavan, the Public Library and Krishna Nagar Academy.
Shantipur
Shantipur is a municipality and city in the district of Nadia in West Bengal. The Daak-Ghar is the main fort of the area and was built by Raja Krishnachandra of Nadia. Shantipur is only 90 km towards the north of Kolkata. Shantipur and the adjacent Fulia are twin cities very famous for Bengal handloom saree weaving centres. In fact, Fulia and Shantipur sarees are very famous throughout India. During the 9th century, this place used to be the center for Vedic learning and Sanskrit literature.
Mayapur
Mayapur is the headquarters of ISKCON and is very close to Nabadwip. It can be reached by crossing the Bhagirathi River by a ferry ride. The ISKCON temple is worth a visit and attracts a huge number of visitors every day. The place is located at the meeting point of Ganga and Jalangi. Mayapur is a part of the nine islands of Nabadwip. It is a very popular pilgrim centre for the Vishnavite which was founded by Bakti Vinod Thakur. Most of the temples of Mayapur are dedicated to Radha and Krishna.
Nabadwip
It was a centre of learning and philosophy in medieval India and is still noted for its traditional Sanskrit schools. The great Vaishnava saint, social reformer and an important figure of the Bhakti movement, Chaitanya Mahaprabhu (1486-1533) was born here, making this place an important pilgrimage centre in Bengal.
Rajbari
The Rajbari or the Krishnanagar Palace is a popular destination of the city and large number of people visit here to celebrate different festivals. The popular festivals of the Rajbari include the Jhulan Mela in the months of July and August and Holi or Dol during the month of March or April. The palace also has a temple devoted to Goddess Durga, located in the central courtyard, where Durga Puja is performed every year.
Ranaghat
Ranaghat a very popular town located in the Nadia district, is known for its sweet dishes, wide variety of flowers and its handloom industry. It is located at a distance of 74 km towards the north of Kolkata. The town has been mentioned in various places in the early British era. The ‘ratha-yatra’ and the ‘Durga puja’ of the famous Deychowdhury family are very popular in Ranaghat.
Ghurni
Ghurni is a very important centre for the production of clay dolls which are popularly known as Krishnanagar clay dolls. It was Maharaja Krishnachandra who popularized these clay dolls because he was very fond of them.
Jalangi River
Jalangi River is a stem of the Ganges, flowing in Nadia and Murshidabad districts in West Bengal. The Mathabhanga and Jalangi flow into the Bhagirathi-Hooghly. The point where the Jalanagi meets the Ganges is Hooghly and the point where it separates from the main Ganges is called Bhagirathi. Ghurni is a small place located on the banks of Jalangi and is very famous for its clay dolls which are popular as Krishnanagar clay dolls.
BALLAL DHIPI
Ballal Dhipi is located near Bamanpukur Bazar on way to Mayapur at a distance of about 25 K.M. from Krishnanagar. The excavation work was started here by the Archaeological Survey of India in the early 1980s, It revealed a unique structural complex covering nearly 13,000 Sq. meters. Centring around a mound (Dhipi) having a height of 9 meters. This complex identifies itself with the Vikramsila Vihar. Experts say that this side of Stupa (Vihar) of eighth / ninth century was perhaps a seat of learning and pilgrimage up to the eleventh century.
Bethuadahari Wildlife Sanctuary
Bethuadahari Wildlife Sanctuary is situated in the Nadia district, West Bengal, beside NH-34 (22 km north of Krishnanagar) has a large population of Spotted Deer, Jackal, Bengal fox, Porcupine, Common Langur. Other species includes Parakeets, Indian Cuckoo, Barbets and other smaller birds and Pythons. Many type of trees & small Crocodile, generally known as Gharials. It is located in the Nakashipara area. Spread over an area of 67 hectares. It was established in 1980.
