Hazaribagh is a city and a municipal corporation in state of Jharkhand. It is the divisional headquarters of North Chotanagpur division. It is known as a health resort and for Hazaribag Wildlife Sanctuary. The name of the town 'Hazaribagh' is derived from two Persian words: Hazar meaning 'one thousand' and bagh meaning 'garden'. Hence the meaning of Hazaribagh is 'city of a thousand gardens'.

Rajarappa Temple

Rajarappa Temple Rajrappa is an important pilgrimage site of the Hazaribagh District and is situated at the confluence of rivers Damodar and Bhera. This place has a famous temple dedicated to Goddess Chhinnamastka and has idols of Maa Kali, Lord Hanuman and Ashtdhari. During the occasion of Makar Sankranti a grand fair is organised here.

Panchmandir

Panchmandir is dedicated to Lord Krishna and Raddha. The temple walls are not build of cement but are made up of eatables like dal and are strong enough to bear even the harsh earthquakes.

Hawaah palace

The walls of Hawaah Mahal (Kashmir Palace), which were once witness to the presence of Ramgarh rulers. According to residents, this palace was built by King Ram Narayan Singh 110 years ago. Kashmiri art can be seen in it. It also has a beautiful pond which was built for the queen

Sanskriti Museum & Art Galary

It is located in Dipugarh, which is a part of the main town only. This museum focuses on displaying and highlighting art forms traditionally recognised in the various districts of Jharkhand. There are various paintings of Kohvar and Sohraj exhibiting different styles being displayed here. Even the walls of the nearby houses are also painted. The interior of this museum-cum-gallery has been designed imitating the cave paintings of Isco. Dipugarh can be reached by a rickshaw from Hazaribagh town.

Hazaribagh Lake

The most distinguished landmark of the town of Hazaribagh is the Hazaribagh Lake. This area is most prominent which houses the bungalows of various civil servants, ranging from the commissioner to the judges of the district. The best view of the sunrise and the sunset is enjoyed at the end of the third lake, which happens to be the largest one. This is the ideal place for photographers. One can also visit the Swarna Jayanti Cafeteria, which is the only eatery in this region.

Canary Hill

Canary Hill After the Hazaribagh lake, the most popular landmark in the town of Hazaribagh is the Canary Hill. This hill is situated in the middle of dense forest and has a tiny lake at its base. To explore this hill, one should either climb the steps to the top or take a car and drive up to a rest house at the top of a hill near the forest.

Urban Haat

The Urban Haat is located on the NH 33, at about 3 km from the town of Hazaribagh. This Haat has been the result of the efforts of the Jharkhand Government, which displays and sells works created by the native artisans of Hazaribagh and areas of Jharkhand. Two large shops of handicraft from Jharkhand and six food courts are located within this Haat.

Megaliths of Hazaribagh

Megaliths of Hazaribagh At Pankuri Barwadih are the megaliths or huge stone observatory used for astronomical purposes. There is a group of megaliths found close to Barkagaon that is about 25 km from the headquarters of the district. The megaliths are arranged in such a manner that two of the most distinguished megaliths create the alignment for the formation of an Equinox point.

Isco Rock art

The Isco village is located within the Panchayat of Napo, at a distance of about 45 km from the town of Hazaribagh and 15 km from the block of Barkagaon. This village is renowned for Cave and Rock Paintings of Isco dating back to 10,000 BC to 4,000 BC. This site is very popular for its depiction of artistic, historical and cultural background of ancient settlements.

Narsigsthan Temple 

The Narsigsthan Temple is dedicated to Narsingh, an incarnation of Lord Vishnu. The temple is located about 6 km away from Hazaribagh, in the village of Khapriama. There is an idol of Lord Vishnu and a Shivalingam. Located near the Narsigsthan Temple are a few more temples that are dedicated to Kali, Surya Dev and Dasawatar. A grand fair is organised on the day of Kartik Purnima.

Konar Dam

Konar Dam is located at Banaso at a distance of 50 km from Hazaribagh on the Vishnugarh – Bokaro Main Road. To reach here, tourists have to take the NH 100 from the main town of Hazaribagh to stop at Vishnugarh, which is around 35 km from the town. From Vishnugarh, a right and then a drive for 30 minutes more on the Vishnugarh - Bokaro Road will take to Banaso. The Konar Dam is a huge reservoir constructed on the River Konar that provides great views of the surrounding landscape. Smooth roads lead to this reservoir that can be reached by jeeps and buses.

Hazaribagh Wildlife santuary

Hazaribagh Wildlife santuary For preservation of the fauna and to enable visitors to view wild animals in their state of freedom a national park has been constituted within the Hazaribagh district. It starts from about 10 miles from Hazaribagh town on the Hazaribagh-Barhi road and extends to east and west, but mostly westward for several miles. The National Park is a beauty spot. A number of dams have been built and more are in process of construction. The purpose is to create pools of water where the animals may drink in summer.

Barso Pani

Barso Pani is located at a distance of around 47 km, at the Jhikjhor Basti located on the Barkagaon- Hindegir Road. This place is popular for the semi-formed cave, with which a myth is associated that states, when one claps or shouts “Barso Pani”, the cave starts raining. However, in reality the ceiling of this structure sheds water drops giving an impression of rain and it does so without anyone calling for it. Interestingly, it is only the centre of the ceiling from where the rain drops fall, and both the sides remain dry.

Suraj Kund Surajkund hot spring is a natural hot spring in Belkapi gram panchayat of Barkatha community development block in Barhi subdivision of Hazaribagh district in the Indian state of Jharkhand.

Bhadrakali temple

The Bhadrakali Temple is located about 60 km from the district headquarters. This temple is about 400 years old and houses the statue of Bhadrakali. It is located at the confluence of River Mahane and River Vaksha.
