General Information

The Sundarban mangrove forest lies in the vast delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna Rivers in the Bay of Bengal. The Sundarbans provides a unique ecosystem and a rich wildlife habitat. Sundarbans supports diverse biological resources including at least 150 species of commercially important fish, 270 species of birds, 42 species of mammals, 35 reptiles and 8 amphibian species. Mangroves are a transition from the marine to freshwater and terrestrial systems, and provide critical habitat for numerous species of small fish, crabs, shrimps and other crustaceans that adapt to feed and shelter, and reproduce among the tangled mass of roots which grow upward from the anaerobic mud to get the supply of oxygen. The name Sundarbans comes from the name of Sundari Tree.

The journey can be started at around 8 am. The Journey from Kolkata to Gathkhali /Godhkhali is about 80 km. From Gathkhali /Godhkhali to Sundarban cores is another 1.5 hours journey, this is a once in a life time experience and gives the feel of travelling through a placid ocean. Experience the local cuisines cooked and served on a boat, bask in the sun and chill in the mesmerizing surroundings..

It is a single unit economy liner that accommodates up to 8 people and can be ideally booked for a 1 night 2 days OR a 2 night 3 days cruise.
It has 4 rooms, that accommodate 2 persons in each, there are 2 bathrooms that are to be shared by all the guests.
Bookings are possible 1 day prior to your travel, so if you are flash packing or brat packing we can accommodate, subject to availability of the vessel.
The vessel will be anchored from Dawn to Dusk, all cruising shall take place during the day only.

The upper deck is an open to air area with options for snacking and all other on board activities.

01 Night & 02 Days Itinerary

Day 01: Start after breakfast At 8 am, transfer from Kolkata to Godkhali by car(extra charges apply), it will take around 2-3 hours to reach Godkhali (Here the road journey ends and the cruise to beautiful Sundarban begins). Welcome drink will be served followed by tea and coffee. We cruise through rivers Gomor, Durgadhwani. Post lunch, cruise to Sajnekhali Tiger Project Area for viewing Wild life, Sajnekhali Museum, Mangrove Interpretation Centre & Watch Tower. Watch the sun set in the distant horizon. Tea with snacks are served by the evening, Dinner will be served at 9 pm.
Day 02: Morning tea will be served at 6:30 am. A thrilling Boat Cruise inside creeks and dense forest (breakfast on boat during cruise) through numerous rivers while visiting Dobanki Watch Tower where the canopy walks inside the forest (experience the life in which caged animals live in, while getting an all-around view of the forest). After that visit Panchamukhani, Pirkhali, Gajikhali , Spotted Deer Rehabilitation Centre. After which we cruise through Matla – Sea Face (the point from where Bay of Bengal can be seen) – Cruising back through the 5-river junction - to Pitchkhali. Then visit to Sudhanyakhali Watchtower. Lunch will be served on board. cruise around the Neighbouring villages to interact with the Local Community at a typical Sundarban settlement to understand their local Art, Culture and Way of Life (how man and tiger coexist in such a difficult terrain.) In simple words a “Rendezvous with the Rural Bengal.” Evening Tea / Coffee with Snacks will serve followed dinner at 9 pm. Day 03: Morning tea will be served at 6:30 am. Visit to Sudhanyakhali Watch Tower and Cruise through Rivers and Creeks of Pitchkhali- Sarakhkhali- Sudhanokhali- Bonobibi Dharani and visit the Watch- Tower followed by a cruise around the Islands of the Sundarban. Breakfast will be served on boat. Lunch options on boat is available. Followed by transfer to Gogakhali followed by car(extra charges apply), transfer to Kolkata.

• Dobanki Watch Tower – This watchtower presents one with a unique experience of watching wildlife from its Canopy Walk. This canopy walk is about half a kilometre long and at a height of about 20 ft from the ground. There is also a sweet water pond and Chital deers as well as Brahmini Kites are very often sighted here apart from the tigers.
• Neti Dhopani Watch Tower – This is another watchtower in the series of several watchtowers and is associated with the legend of Behula and Lakhindar. Behula reached heaven from this Ghat. Today this watchtower offers one a view of the ruins of a 400 year old Shiva Temple.
• Sudhanyakhali Watchtower – Most of the tigers are sighted from this tower. Some other wildlife like deer, wild boars and crocodiles may also be seen from this watch tower. This watch tower has a capacity to host 25 persons at a time. There is a sweet water pond where animals come to drink water. Behind the pond are stretches of land bereft of any vegetation where one can sight animals from a Distance.
• Sajnekhali sanctuary - The Sajnekhali sanctuary, famous for its rich avian population, is regarded as a part of the Sundarbans National Park. The kingdom of birds at Sajnekhali enchants your eyes. The most sought after sights by a bird watcher are seven colourful species of Kingfisher, white bellied Sea Eagle, Plovers, Lap-Wings, Curfews, Whimprel, Sandpipers and Pelican.
• Bonnie camp- The original name of the camp was Sundarikati Eco Conservation Camp. On 15th July 2003, Shri Budhhadeb Guha, a famous novelist renamed the camp as Bonnie Camp. Like all other camps in Sundarbans, this enclosed area consists of an Eco Museum just below the Watch Tower, a Banbibi temple. This watchtower, 50 feet high, is the highest watchtower in the Sundarbans. An added attraction of the park is a deer enclosure. where one can see numerous deer moving around the enclosure
• Sundarban National Park - Sundarbans was included in the list of World Heritage Site. The most unique part of Sundarbans relates to the fact that it is the largest mangrove forest in the world with a large concentration of Royal Bengal Tigers. Some 78 species of mangroves are recorded across the forest. It also plays a vital role in the survival of marine organisms as it works as a wetland nursery to them.
• Hamilton Bungalow - Sir Hamilton's bungalow at Gosaba, from where father of the Sundarban, Sir Daniel Mackinnon Hamilton started the biggest cooperative society in Sundarban area. The Sajnekhali sanctuary, famous for its rich avian population, is regarded as a part of the Sundarbans National Park.
• Becon Bungalow - Beacon’s bungalow at Gosaba where Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore once resided and enjoyed the beauty of the Sundarban forest.
• Panchmukhani – It is the meeting point of five rivers. Five rivers meet at a point with a beautiful surrounding. There is high scope and chance that one can spot a deer or a herd of deer at the banks of the rivers at Panchmukhi.
• Burir Dabri – Buri Dabri is situated at the eastern most part of Sundarban Tiger Reserve & it was inaugurated. It is famous for its watch tower, mud walk & Cage trail of 200 mtrs. Covered with wire mesh & nylon, this allows visitor to virtually walk through the forest. the track ends at a watch tower which overlooks the river Raimangal, with Bangladesh on the opposite banks . Raimangal which forms the international boundary between India & Bangladesh
• Banabibi - Banbibi, the lady of the forest, also Bandevi, Bandurga and Byaghradevi is a guardian spirit of the forests venerated by both the Hindu and the Muslim residents of the Sundarbans. She is called upon mostly by the honey-collectors and the woodcutters before entering the forest for protection against the attacks from the tigers. It is believed that the demon king, Dakkhin Ray (or Dakshin Rai; meaning Lord of the South), an arch-enemy of Banbibi actually appears in the disguise of a tiger and attacks human beings.
